Antivirus keeps sending regular warnings, runs in the background and consumes battery and space. Remember that Google keeps a check on the apps and Play Store detects the presence of malware in the app. So, if you download apps only from Play Store, you should not worry about malware. Also, you should not visit unscrupulous websites as such websites trick you in installing APK files that you do not intend to install. Battery saving apps do everything except save battery!
We all know that to save battery power , you have to stop using energy draining apps or control Android. To control the OS, you need to have a rooted device. Without root access, battery apps can do nothing to save power. Instead of installing a battery saver app, you can manually control the battery.
If you are not using the app regularly, Force Stop it and enable when required. You can stop the background apps to boost the memory. Even if you close these RAM saver apps, they tend to restart soon. Therefore, you do not need a third party RAM saving app.
Manufacturers and carriers load Android phones with their own apps. If you do not use these apps, they clutter your system and drain battery in the background. You hardly have any choice when it comes to removing bloatware from your system. Uninstalling the pre-installed apps may result in performance issues or instability, and in some cases may block your phone from receiving updates. Therefore, it is recommended that you Disable or Force Stop these apps.
By age 10 to 12, nearly half of kids have a cell phone with a service plan. Giving kids their own phones can obviously make family communication and coordination easier.
But doing so is a difficult choice for many parents. Some affluent communities are even pushing back at schools to discourage the use of screens in the classroom. Parents can use them to set time limits and enforce them automatically, without constant nagging.
Set clear rules. Cell phone users ages 8 to 12 are especially eager to please their parents, said Moreno. Determine, for instance, how much time they should be permitted to spend on the phone on weekdays and weekends, particularly on social networking, entertainment, and games. Curb screen time at night when kids need sleep. One recent study of 8- to year-old kids found that those who were active for at least 60 minutes a day, slept nine to 11 hours each night, and spent no more than two hours a day on recreational screen time scored higher in language, planning, and other mental task tests than kids who met none of the three criteria.
Recognizing that not all screen time is equal —students may need to text their friends about a homework assignment, or use an educational app to study—the AAP has moved away from recommending specific restrictions on the amount of time kids spend on screens. Rather, it recommends that parents designate screen-free times, such as during dinner or in the car, and, if possible, screen-free zones, such as in the bedroom.
Importantly, parents, as role models , should follow this guideline, too. Keep the conversation going. For instance, some parental controls provide reports that break down how your kid is spending time on their phone, which can be a starting point for a conversation.
The American Academy of Pediatrics provides a tool to create a family media plan , including a calculator that determines how much time a child should be allowed to spend on screen time, balancing it against the amount of sleep and active time a child needs. Common Sense Media answers commonly asked questions about screen time, researches how children are using technology, and gives parents tips and advice on healthy technology use.
The parental-controls market is a large and open-ended one: Some specialize in blocking pornography and other inappropriate content, others claim to monitor social media for cyberbullying. Under pressure from parents and shareholders , as well as a digital-addiction awareness movement among Silicon Valley movers and shakers , both Google and Apple have recently rolled out free parental controls.
Apple, for its part, has said that it began developing Screen Time before the letter from shareholders. Christine Elgersma, a senior editor at Common Sense Media, recommends that parents start with the least invasive controls. Though parents naturally have the urge to keep their kids safe, they also have to give their kids room to make mistakes and figure things out on their own. Some experts also warn that heavy surveillance could undermine your relationship with your child.
Anya Kamenetz, author of The Art of Screen Time: How Your Family Can Balance Digital Media and Real Life , suggests thinking of parental controls as scaffolding that can help kids develop self-control so that they can eventually manage how they use their phone on their own. These devices have been recommended by the organization Wait Until 8th as a beginner step to owning a cell phone, and we plan to review them in a future guide. But we expect that as parents upgrade to new phones, they will be inclined to pass down their old ones.
Based on our research and interviews with experts, we determined that parental controls need to include three key features:. To determine our finalists, we surveyed parents and studied recent reviews and reports on parental controls.
We narrowed the list down to:. I used an iPhone X as the parent phone. We spent about 30 hours installing and examining the parental controls one at a time. We set daily caps and bedtime schedules on the phones, and handed them over to our kids to see if they worked.
We also spent time looking at how the parental controls managed Web searches, text messaging, phone calls, location tracking, and the ability to download or delete apps. We did not test on an Android tablet because our preferred budget alternative to the iPad is the Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Edition , which has good built-in parental controls. As with other parental controls, Screen Time lets parents set a daily limit on the amount of time their child can spend on their iPhone, as well as automatically shut the phone down at bedtime.
But unlike third-party iOS apps like Qustodio and unGlue for the iPhone, Screen Time provides parents with a deeper look at how their child is using their device, by showing how much time their child spends on social networking or entertainment apps. Compared with third-party apps, Screen Time also gives parents the most flexibility to manage how much time their child spends on certain kinds of apps; for instance, parents can allow their child to read ebooks for as long as they want, block all games, and limit social networking to an hour a day.
Screen Time groups apps into nine categories, including entertainment, games, social networking, education, and productivity. Once their child reaches the limit, the apps are blocked and the child must request additional time from the parent.
In addition, parents can limit how much time their child spends on individual apps each day. Phone calls can still be made during Downtime, and the clock can also still be accessed. Parents can also track their own screen habits Screen Time is automatically included in iOS 12; you can turn it off if you prefer not to track your personal iPhone use. Flipd allows you to lock your phone for a set period of time, and once you do, there's no going back.
Even restarting your phone won't disable the app, so it's impossible for you to cheat! Flipd can even be used to remotely "flip off" one user from another user's device, which is helpful for teams that want to keep one another on point.
AppDetox Android. Hooked on mobile games? Can't stop refreshing Twitter? AppDetox can help you get your fixation under control if apps are your kryptonite. You can set your own parameters on an app-by-app basis so you can have access when it's not a disruption. Every time you break one of your own rules, the app reminds you to put down your phone. If you don't have the app in your iTunes library on your computer, then the older version is lost, sorry.
Dear Apple Club, I have the older version of an app on my 1st gen I pad. What I am trying to do is to get this particular app onto my new I pad air. I have DL'd the app from I tunes when I synced my devices, but the version that showed up on my Air, did not have any of my data on it from the older version although I logged in. Could you advise me step by step as to how to resolve this problem? I asked the app developers, but I think they are from a foreign country and are not getting back with me.
If I didn't really love this app I wouldn't mess with it. Thanks bunches! There are different ways that apps store data, and we probably wouldn't have knowledge of a particular app, so you'll probably have to wait for a reply from their support. I have an app, Music Tube, that I have updated twice since the version I like, and last night I was able to go back to the most previous version using a video on Youtube, which I think showed the same way.
Is it possible to go back to the version before it? If I can't do it on my own computer, I told my cousin about it. Maybe she hasn't updated it since then, but she might of. Enjoying Spotify right now, not as fancy as the latest version I can see in my android mobile but oh I don't mind. It's the Music that matters. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
When Yahoo Weather added ads I tried this method of local installation to get around it. It worked! This works brilliantly! These instructions are a lot better than Apple's as they assume you already own the app! By Jonika. Instagram used to let download the last compatible version with my ios6 4th gen iPod and now it won't let me redownload.
Instead of the message being:the newest version requires ios7 but the latest compatible version can be downloaded, and then it giving me the option to download the other version it just tells me: this application requires ios7 to be opened and used and the only option below is ok Please Help.
I just now downloaded Instagram on iOS 6 without issue - the older version was still offered. Do you have an existing copy of the app that you are trying to update? Are you using a different Apple ID than when you downloaded it before? Both of these could be the cause of not being offered an older version. When was the last time you downloaded it successfully? I have the exact same problem as jonika r. I had Instagram on my iPod 4th gen and I deleted it like usual but this one time it didnt pop up the option to download the last compatible version.
I am still using the same exact apple ID as before but same problem it only tells me that the app requires ios7 or later still no option to download the last compatible version. If you synced your iPhone with iTunes on your computer, there's a chance the old version may still be there. By john. Very helpful. Apple makes it confusing to do this, but it's explained very well here. It's been frustrating not being able to download apps for my iPod Touch 4th gen but your workaround did the trick nicely. Thank you!
This article has helped me! I will forever be indebted. And mind you technology tips never work for me and my gadgets. By Mr. It doesn't work. However, every time I try to sync it I just get the following message: "The app 'iBooks' was not installed.
From what you describe, it sounds like you are trying to install the latest version of the iBooks app using iTunes, and that is not what this article is suggesting.
The purpose of downloading the app in iTunes is just so you have ownership of the app. Once you do, then the app needs to be downloaded from the App Store on your iPod touch. It should now ask you if you want to install an older version.
Yes, I was trying it in the wrong way, and i don't know how to do it.
